Thermal Analysis (DSC, XRPD and TAM)

HyperDSC.JPG

Fig. 1. Fast scan Diffrential Scanning Calorimetry(Perkin Elmer Diamond DSC)

Fast scan DSC, is used for solid-state characterization, i.e. determination of glass transition temperature (Tg) and crystallization temperature (Tc) in amorphous materials and determination of melting temp (Tm) of crystalline/ partially crystalline samples.

In the example below, determination of Tg by Diamond DSC is shown.

Fig 3. Seiko DSC
Seiko DSC is used at HTD Biosystems for both solid-state characterization and also for determination of denaturation temperature of proteins in liquid formulations at high concentrations (>10 mg/ml).

In addition to DSC, HTD Biosystems provides experties in other thermal analysis methods such as Isothermal Microcalorimetry (IMC), TAM (Thermal Activity Monitor) and Isothermal Titration Microcalorimetry (ITC). Microcalorimetry can be used for determination of degree of solid-state disorder (amorphicity) of pharmaceutical drugs, when degree of amorphicity is very small (even 1%).
Isothermal Titration Microcalorimetry can be used to study complexation reactions such as protein-ligand interactions.
